For Draka NExST:
To KLM's well-known inflight magazine, Holland Herald, I contrbuted an article on the renovation of Amsterdam's Olympic Stadium, a beautiful specimen of the Amsterdam School style of archicture from the 1920s.
For a now-defunct Dutch DTP magazine called Proof, I interviewed a number of prominent graphic designers and typographers. These included renown British typographer Matthew Carter and Dutch designers and typographers Gerard Unger, Max Kisman, and Willem Velthoven. For its sister magazine, the likewise defunct Software Magzine, I interviewed the brilliant programmer and open software guru Richard Stallman.
"Localising the European Union" (PDF file) was published in the summer of 1999 on the Web site of the EU-sponsored e-zine Le Journal.
From Multilingual Computing, "Europe's Language Technology Push" is a brief summary of the European Union's language technology strategy aimed primarily at non-European readers. Also from the same publication: "Jaap van der Meer", a profile of translation industry pioneer.
"Future Tense for Euro Systran?" appeared in slightly different form in the 9.3 issue (summer '97) of Language International. It gives a good picture of the use of translation technology at the European Commission. It is reprinted in Translating Into Success, Robert Sprung (ed.), John Benjamins, 2000.
Here are a couple articles I wrote for Language Industry Monitor:
There are many more of my articles from LIM in the Monitor archives.
Here are a few articles from my Electric Word days:
For "Marvin Minsky: in search of the smart machine" (Jan/Feb 1990), I interviewed Minsky in his office at MIT's Media Lab. This article was the cover story for that issue.
